John was born in England and moved to Canada in 1986. His interest in photography began as a teenager and he worked as a photographer for the student newspaper while attending the University of Wales in the U.K. Upon graduation, he decided to pursue a career in the financial industry, where he worked for the next twenty years. During this time, however, John never forgot the power of the photographic image and continued to photograph and exhibit his work in local galleries. In 2002, he decided to return to photography professionally and since then has worked for both profit and non-profit organizations (see "Client List"). In 2005, John won second place in the medical category at the International Photography Awards for his work on the elimination of leprosy in India for the World Health Organization. In 2006, John began working with the National Inuit Youth Council and the Embrace Life Council, designing and facilitating workshops in photography and video for Inuit youth throughout Nunavut (see Inuusivut Project in the menu). A selection of John's photographs from Nunavut are included in a permanent collection at the Museum of Social Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany.
