Inuusivut (Our Way of Life) Project

The Inuusivut (Our Way of Life) Project is a national initiative of the Embrace Life Council. The primary objective of the project is to learn, document and share - through a variety of multi-media techniques - how Inuit perceive, express, develop, foster and promote mental health. The main focus is to provide the necessary skills-based training to enable youth to be the driving force in the exploration, promotion and sharing of mental health related issues both regionally and nationally.

Youth respond positively to various forms of visual communication, such as film and photography. By training youth to utilize these media more effectively, we increase the chances that mental health issues will be more thoroughly explored and shared with peers, families and communities. For this reason, we have designed a detailed training program that focuses on the practicalities of using state-of-the-art photography, video and computer equipment to express and communicate important issues relating to mental health. Each workshop is facilitated by a team of experienced media professionals to ensure that youth are exposed to the best training possible.
