A Few Facts Everyone Should Know

The world's population is 6.5 billion.

Global GDP is $55 trillion.

The G8 nations (USA, Japan, UK, Italy, Germany, France, Russia & Canada) account for 13% of the global population and 43% of global GDP.

The G8 allocates less than 0.4% of its aggregate GDP to foreign aid despite promises since 1969 to increase this to 0.7%.

1.3 billion people live on less than $1 per day; 3 billion people live on less than $2 per day;

 1.3 billion people have no access to clean water; 3 billion people have no access to sanitation; 2 billion people have no access to electricity.

Almost 1 billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their name.

There are 2.2 billion children in the world. 143 million will not go to school.

Less than 1% of what the world spends on weapons could put every child into school.

Globally, we spend $11 billion on ice-cream, $50 billion on cigarettes, $105 billion on Alcohol and $1 trillion on weapons.
